Favorite activities are, of course, bowling, but Lane is also an avid skier, and he taught Meredith how to ski after they met. Lane is originally from Marlette and Meredith grew up in Lapeer. They currently live in Marlette. They started bowling on a league about five years ago and fell in love with it, making new friends who feel like family at the bowling alley. This one of the reasons they purchased the alley from Dave, the people here are amazing.
So, whether you want to bowl a couple of games, dance or sing the night away, or just go out and enjoy a good meal, Lane’s Lanes and Mead’s Tavern is the place to be. They are located at 429 East Main Street, Michigan, and be sure to visit their Facebook page. Please, stop by and welcome Lane & Meredith to Mayville!

]]>The post Mayville Area Ambulance Service appeared first on Mayville Area Chamber of Commerce.
]]>As a Non-Profit organization, all of their funding is used for accomplishing their mission of providing emergency medical care. MAAS is funded through three main sources – billing for services provided, service contracts with the governmental units serviced, and memorials and donations (donations may be tax deductible).
Planning for MAAS began in late 1975. Over several months of preparation, MAAS was officially in service in October 1976. Operations were based out of a small garage, that was shared with Mayville Police, across from the Mayville Fire Department. Over the next several years, MAAS call volumes grew. In July 2005, MAAS moved in to our new building at the corner of M-24 and Lynch Drive. MAAS put our second ambulance in to service in August of 2014.
Most EMT volunteers see the job as a rewarding challenge, a learning opportunity, good hands-on experience for other healthcare professions (including doctor or nurse), a chance to make a difference in the lives of others, and an opportunity to give back to their community. Their staffing comes from a variety of backgrounds and situations – some are college students, some retired, some work full or part-time jobs in a many different industries. Each is considered a paid, on call volunteer. What does that mean? That means that each of them volunteers to work on an ambulance. In turn, MAAS provides a reimbursement program that compensates them for the time they worked.
Although we use the term volunteer, it is not completely accurate. In order to be a member of MAAS, each must complete an EMS training course, pass the State of Michigan licensing exams to become a licensed MFR or EMT, and complete CPR certification. Additionally, each must attend continuing education sessions to earn credits for license renewal.
HELP IS WANTED for EMS staffing. Yes, there may be costs involved for the training, but it could possibly be reimbursed once you pass your exam and certifications and become a member of our team. Please contact James Welke if you are interested in learning more. EMS is a great way to serve your community, as well as learn valuable skills that can help save lives, and could be beneficial in your career path.
The Mayville Area Ambulance service is located at 5802 Lynch Drive and you can contact James Welke at 989-843-6136.
